Kathryn (Seng) Gurland, LCSW
Founder and Director of PEG’S Group Peg’s Group

PEG’S Group is an independent fee for service group of Cancer Navigation Consultants„¢ which provides Personal Education, Guidance and Support for people affected by cancer.

Throughout her career, while providing the varied professional services required, she had the great fortune to work with many highly skilled and compassionate clinicians. Unfortunately, she also witnessed countless cases of individuals who were tormented by the unpredictable and confusing journey that one is forced into when given a life threatening diagnosis. These professional experiences provided her with a wealth of information as well as an in-depth exposure to the multi-dimensional facets of cancer and its effect on everyone involved.

  • Graduated magna cum laude from New York University with a BA in Liberal Arts.
  • Holds a Masters Degree (MSW) from New York University’s School of Social Work.
  • Is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New York.
  • Had a successful private practice for several years as a psychotherapist in Manhattan, which she now maintains at her office in Brooklyn.
  • Is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Association of Oncology Social Workers (AOSW), the Association for Death and Education Counseling (ADEC) and a Founding Member of the Social Work in Hospice and Palliatifellowve Care Network (SWHPN).

Kathryn said, “My personal life has also added to my education about this disease. I have lost two sisters to cancer, Judi and Peggy. Both of their diagnoses were discovered at a late stage and both of them died when they were in their 40′s. It was my experience with Peggy in the dual role of family member/health care professional which convinced me that a distinct personal service needed to be created to help people just like my sisters – individuals whose entire lives get transformed by that devastating diagnosis. In gathering information about the diverse and crucial needs of people with cancer, the most prominent ones that surfaced were education and guidance.”

Erika Kotite - Erika is an experienced editor with background in consumer magazines, book publishing/packaging, and marketing. She has worked at April Cornell, Entrepreneur Magazine, many shelter books. She has enjoyed a remarkable career in publishing, rising through talent, drive, and outstanding dedication to excellence, when she faced a foe far more hellacious than any corporate boss: breast cancer. She beat that with a fierce courage, and now is launching a new online site for chefs and people who love them, called Toque.

Erika says, “I enjoy “pulling the pieces together, whether it’s a start-up magazine or something for a busy client with a space to fill and no ideas. I love to collaborate with fellow editors.”

Sheri Lapidus

Sheri is a public relations executive with over 20 years experience in consumer and trade press, having held various executive public relations positions at In Style, Elle magazines and at NBC-TV and CBS-TV.

At 45, she did the unthinkable: she decided to embark on a lifestyle change and launch her own business from home. She was in the throes of planning her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah (2010) and her son’s Bar Mitzvah (2012), so her business was a logical choice.

Sheri launched www.MitzvahMarket.com that is a free online resource for Bar/Bat Mitzvah planning families. In just 18 months the database has more than tripled and the site has over 400 vendors listed in the Vendor Directory (paid advertising).

She went from an exciting career in the entertainment industry, dealing with celebrities and working In Style’s Golden Globes and Oscar party for 9 years, to a world of Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. She couldn’t be happier– bringing innovative, cost-saving ideas to families all over the country.
