My book has just been published! “Get DARE From Here!”
Are you tired of hearing (or feeling) that as an over-40 woman you are “toast†or “past it?†I was! Get DARE From Here! - 12 Principles and Practices for Women Over 40 to Take Stock, Take Action and Take Charge of the Rest Of Their Lives - is all about “what was I thinking when I did that?†and “what do I do NOW?â€
Having created a system to get over-40 women out of the doldrums of fear, “stuckness,†“it’s too late†and all the other negative stuff we hang onto, I plowed on to write this book. It’s a fast-driving manual for kickplus-starting your life. A bit irreverent, sometimes funny, and easy-to-use, I hope my “how-to†manifesto will chuckle you off your butt and onto a whole new path. I have filled it with tips, ideas, guidance, resources, examples, and a step-by-step plan to DARE to do whatever you dream!
Here’s a small excerpt from Get DARE From Here!
The Big DEAL about Your DEAL Over 40
There are numerous definitions of the word DEAL. At The DARE-Force, DEAL is a synonym for an essential planning and self-management tool called a SWOT analysis, short for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Helping women over 40 sum up their own DEAL — their physical, emotional, financial, and intellectual SWOT — is a critical component of our work. DEAL covers the key internal and external factors that are favorable or unfavorable for DRIVING your own strategy forward, especially during or after a crisis. Here’s why you should reconsider your DEAL on a regular basis once you’re over 40:
• Inertia is bad for you, i.e., what you don’t do can, in fact, hurt you. One of the Reasons so many of us seem to be thrust into transition in mid-life is because we’ve been doing the same thing for so long that we can’t or won’t take Action to change. If you’ve built your life (and/or career) around a certain routine or skill set, and you’ve been successful at it, it’s easy to see why you might want to stay in your current parking spot rather than DEAL with change.
• Dramatic change can and will happen to you, and you might not have a choice but to DEAL. Whether you like it or not, setbacks can create dramatic change once you hit your 40s, and for sure in your 50s. Unwanted change can catapult you into panic faster and longer than the realization that the 100-calorie popcorn you put on high-nuke five minutes ago just blew off the door to your microwave.
• If what you were good at for a long time is boring you to tears now, and someone a decade younger could and would do it better, faster and cheaper, DARE to DEAL with that. If you don’t DEAL with that, you’re going to be even more bored, unhappy, and vulnerable. Plus, you’re missing out on discovering what would really DRIVE you to more enjoyable and productive new EXPERIENCES.
• If you can’t or won’t recharge, retrain or transition into something new, you’re coasting, even if you won’t admit it to anyone, not even yourself. If you don’t DEAL with that, someone else will DEAL with it for you, and you could be stuck DRIVING a DEAL someone else decides for you. Never let anyone else DRIVE your DEAL, unless you’re confident they’ll DEAL for you better than you would. Be mindful also of how you’ll DEAL with loss as you move on. Then, reconsider your Dreams & Desires, recharge your energy, and DRIVE it into something new and productive.
